'We have no alternative than peaceful protest'
Israeli troops have surrounded a Palestinian village in the occupied West Bank after several weeks of demonstrations against the latest stretch of the West Bank barrier. For at least the past two days the military has placed a cordon around the village of Nilin, imposing what it calls a "closure" and preventing people from entering or leaving. Nilin is the latest village to join a small but growing protest movement that organisers say is supposed to remain non-violent, but which often involves stone throwing.

Israelische Behörden behindern Arbeit von UN-Organisation
 Die britische Tageszeitung “The Daily Star” berichtete vergangene Woche über massive Behinderungen von UN-Angehörigen durch die israelische Armee. Der Vorsitzende einer UN-Delegation in den palästinensischen Gebieten Prasad Kariyawasam sagte: “Israelische Behörden erlaubten uns nicht die palästinensischen Gebiete zu betreten. (…) Keine Gründe wurden angeben, da sie unser Mandat nicht anerkennen.”

Israel setzt Angriffe in Nil’in fort

Israels Lobby ist aktiv - Im Gegensatz zu führenden US-Militärs und der Ölindustrie drängen zionistische Gruppen in Washington und Brüssel auf einen Krieg gegen Iran -  Rainer Rupp - Es vergeht so gut wie kein Tag, an dem nicht ein Mitglied der israelischen Regierung einen Krieg gegen Iran propagiert. Zugleich hat Israel seine Helfer in den USA und in der Europäischen Union für die Kriegspropaganda mobilisiert. Insbesondere in den Vereinigten Staaten ist der politische Druck für einen Angriff gegen Teheran bereits sehr stark. Allerdings kommt der nicht von einem breiten Spektrum der amerikanischen Eliten, sondern fast ausschließlich von der kleinen, aber mächtigen zionistischen Lobby.

Israeli army shuts down six Hamas-affiliated associations in Nablus - Ma`an - The Nablus Mall has 50 shops and offices, including the Al-Itiman company, which has a capital of 4 million Jordanian Dinars (5.64 million US dollars). Israel says this company funds Hamas and `encourages terrorism.` The head of the Mall administration Adli Yayish has been in Israeli custody for a year and a half, accused of being affiliated to Hamas. The Israeli army commander in Nablus issued an order that anyone who now enters the Nablus Mall will be imprisoned for five years ( sic! ). The order will come into effect on August 15. The Israeli army issued a statement transferring the ownership of the Nablus Mall to the Israeli authorities from August 18.

Vom Schweigen der Lämmer   - André Marty -  Ihr Name ist Programm. „Breaking the silence“. Ex-Soldaten, die nicht länger schweigen mochten. Soldaten, die von ihrem Einsatz in der israelischen Armee erzählen. Ex-Soldaten, die hinsehen wollen, wenn ein Land wegschaut. Ex-Soldaten, die Interessierte nach Hebron ins besetzte Westjordanland führen. Das kommt in Israel gar nicht gut an. “Breaking the silence“ wurde zum Schweigen gebracht. Zumindest was Hebron betrifft, ist’s vorbei mit der Gegen-Information. Die Polizei verbietet der Organisation seit April den Zugang zu Hebron. Und das mit munter wechselnden Begründungen: Einmal ist Hebron eine „closed military zone“, dann ist „Breaking the Silence“ „disturbing the peace“ oder veranstaltet ein „illegal gathering“. Der (israelische) Polizeichef von Hebron, Avishai Peleg, ist jetzt noch einen Schritt weitergegangen: Der Polizei-Obere bezeichnet die Ex-Soldaten als „Extremisten“ und „Unruhestifter" >>>.

Kooperation, nicht Konfrontation - Bahman Nirumand  - Christoph Bertram plädiert für einen radikalen Wandel der westlichen Politik gegenüber dem Iran - Selten gibt es in der von beiden Seiten angeheizten Atmosphäre zwischen dem Westen und Iran Stimmen, die Vernunft walten lassen und die Lage nüchtern betrachten. Zu diesen Ausnahmen gehört die vor Kurzem erschienene Analyse von Christoph Bertram. Der ehemalige Direktor der Berliner Stiftung Wissenschaft und Politik bilanziert den nun seit mehr als fünf Jahren andauernden Streit um das iranische Atomprogramm und stellt fest, dass die westliche Strategie gegenüber Iran nichts taugt und deshalb grundlegend geändert werden muss. (...) Bei allen diesen Fragen meldet Bertram erhebliche Zweifel an. Zwar sei es berechtigt, die Beteuerungen Irans zur friedlichen Nutzung der Atomenergie infrage zu stellen. Doch folge man den Berichten der Internationalen Atombehörde, sei das Land noch Jahre von der Bombe entfernt. Und gesetzt den Fall, Iran würde doch rascher als vermutet in den Besitz eines nuklearen Sprengsatzes gelangen, »wieso wäre, wie es in den einschlägigen westlichen Politikerreden gern heißt, ein atomar bewaffneter Iran inakzeptabel?« Für jene, die seit Jahren an dem Feindbild Iran basteln, klingen solche Fragen wie kalter Hohn. Aber Bertram lässt sich davon nicht beeindrucken. Er bringt überzeugende Argumente dafür, dass selbst jene Radikalen in Iran, die möglicherweise die nukleare Bewaffnung des Landes anstreben, dies nicht mit dem Ziel tun, Israel oder gar Europa und die USA zu vernichten. >>>

 



Living forever by bombardment - Gideon Levy - Haaretz - Talking about an action against Iran is not our main problem. For or against bombardment, Israel never thinks in terms of beyond tomorrow. It acts like a person who puts buckets in a house with a leaky roof instead of thoroughly fixing the roof. So we bombard Iran, and even if it is successful and we do not have to pay a heavy price for it - a dubious scenario - what happens then? What will happen when Egypt wants a bomb? Will we bomb again? And Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Syria and Iraq? And perhaps Hezbollah has some "dirty bomb" or other? And will we "allow" Turkey to go nuclear? Will we bombard and bombard, and live forever by bombardment?

10-year-old subjected to torture by Israeli soldiers - A 10-year-old boy was subjected to physical abuse amounting to torture for 2.5 hours by Israeli soldiers who stormed his family’s shop on 11 June, seeking information on the location of a handgun. The boy was repeatedly beaten, slapped and punched in the head and stomach, forced to hold a stress position for half and hour, and threatened. He was deeply shocked and lost two molar teeth as a result of the assault >>>
